This time , I will not complain about Kamboji ( though this makes it 6 out of 6 for me). From the moment I entered the hall at gayana samaja, everything rendered was brilliant. Nalinakanti Alapana, which welcomed me in, to the hamsansi viruttam, every piece was very good. He choose the Alapana , neraval and swara combination very interestingly and effectively. There wasnt any elaborate 15 mins alapana , but whatever he did was precise and beautiful , especially nalinakanti and thodi. Neraval at the kamboji kriti and the swara singing for all of these were amazing, superbly supported by Mahadevan and by Raghuram, who I thought did a splendid job. Kamboji was the main, but the tani avartanam wasnt taken up. He immediately started alapana of kapi, and we were anticipating an RTP. Instead he chose to sing Intha sowkhya, and what a rendition it was. Mannargudi Eawaran and Giridhar Udupa added to the show with a nice tani avartanam.
The amplification level in the hall was a couple of notch higher , making it a bit unpleasant to the ears. Barring that , it was one superb concert, despite my ‘record’ of kAmboji.
