I reached during the neraval of thODi kriti, while few of my friends were already seated there in time. I go for Rudrapatnam Brothers concert , primarily to listen to an un-adulterated music.  There will not be any frills and extra ordinary excitement, theire concert usually give you a very good feeling at the end. However, yesterday things weren’t all that great. First of all, I thought both were having some diffuculty with their voice. Both seems to be uneasy at the higher octaves. To add to this, the amplification settings were imperfect. The listening experience in the auditorium was not the best yesterday.  They also had trouble withthe feedback speakers , and had to stop singing for a while during the thOdi krithi.

Keeravani main was an average affair. Varali RTP had a promising start, but there was always a time pressure. Tanam was a “single round” relay, a short pallavi with trikalam and the usual few round of ragamalika swaras.  The dasa krithi in sahana and the mangalam were new to me and that was the only take from the concert.

Another wonderful concert by Sanjay today at the NMKRV College, in front of a packed and overflowing crowd.  Andolika, kalyani and keeravani , each of them were brilliant. For me the pick of the evening was the Andolika krithi rAgasudharasa. Superb alapana and an outstanding sets of swara for this krithi lasted almost 30 mins. Kalyani main was taken us quite early and the krithi followed was not often heard Thyagaraja piece of Sive pAhimambike, rendered at a brisk pace ( not sure why). There was detailed neraval and swara singing before the tani avartanam. Instead of those obscure ragas  for RTP, it was Keeravani this time. And what a piece.  From alapana , tanam pallavi to the ragamalika swaras, it was received with applause at very stage by an enthusiastic audienc; rightly so. The ragamalika swarams were awesome. Nagai Muralidharan was superb today with some outstanding rendering in his returns to Sanjays neraval and swara , and those for the RTP were noteworthy. Overall a superb Sunday evening.
