Jayahtni Kumaresh and the team ( I mention the team again) presented a beautiful concert yesterday at the Heritage Academy Hall, part of the Nadasurabhi monthly concert series.  After the initial hiccup with sound setting, lasted beyond one song with husband-mentor Kumaresh taking lead with various permutations and combinations on stage and with the mike-man, the concert settled with the mohanam krithi.  Bhavanutha is not one of my favourite, and it helped being an instrumental concert.  The kalpana swaras at the end of the krithi were brilliant and that set the tone for the rest of the evening. Khamas alapana was just ok. Bhagayanayya and the bhairavi alapana and balagopala set the tempo back again.

Pallavi in Kalyani was nothing short of brilliant. Alapana was exquisite , especially the ‘single stroke’ phrase that lasted for over 2 mins. The technigue of playing only with the left hand without the typical right hand stroke/pluck was outstanding. I do not know the technical term for it, but I loved the way she played. Tanam was ok with no special moments. Pallavi was very well executed. Supported superbly by the percussion team, the pallavi with trikalam was very good, so was the short ragamalika swarams.

Ravishankar and Guruprasanna were very good through out, showing lot of anticipation during the concert. They added to their good work with an outstanding tani avartanam.  Post main was also very good with some melodious rendering of baro Krishnayya and ennatavam. A requested thillana followed , which I guess was her own composition.  In all a very good concert by the vidushi.
