Another beautiful concert to end the weeklong Annual Music Festival at Nadasurabhi. One complete concert in evrey aspect. To me, this was one of the most co-ordinated concert between all four participants ( five infact, with two vocalists).

From the humming of the kEdAragaula , it was evident that this is going to be a treat.  The concert picked up with the rarely heard krithi of Thyagaraja in Mayamalavagaula. Sriram explained the krithi and its significance, before the rendering. Neraval and Swara were also very good.  A kalyani krithi and nalinakanthi followed in quick succession, before Ravi started an elaborated alapana in sahAna. Giripai, immortalised by the great MDR was to follow after a brilliant violin return by Mysore Nagaraj.

Arjunkumar and Amrut both followed superbly throught out, did a fantastic tani avartanam. Amrut, especially  was fantastic. They announced a short pallavi in janaranjaka ‘ranjani mala’. Both alapana and the tanam was good albeit short. As espected a slew of ranjani’s followed one after other in the ragamalika swaras, ending with the raga name.  The concert closed with the usual sets of Purandara Dasa, annamacharya krithis.

Two words on the series. I could attend only 4 of them and I could say that this years series has been a treat to the listeners. Each of the concerts were brilliant ( I heard form others that those I missed were also very good).  Despite the few disruptions ( power , the amplifications), the event hosted out of a new auditorium was pretty decent. There were no dreaded  mid concert speeches. Most of the concerts began on time ( except on Saturday, when Krishna was caught on a traffic jam) and were generally well attended.  A fine effort from the organisers.

    Hi Jayan,

This was truly a superb concert! The brothers just keep getting better everytime i hear them and they were already really good when i first heard them!

Of special mention was Nagaraj’s accompaniment – simply Superb!!Be it the Sahana or Ranjani!
