I had to leave at this point. Not sure what was sung post this.

A very good concert by T N Seshagopal yesterday. This time, there was no trouble with voice and it was clear from the varnam itself. He was able to go through all the high octave singing and the low octave with relative ease and at will. Varnam had a set of swara with some 3 kala swara singing.  Sadhinchane was a filler. Pantuvarali was the first alapana and the neraval and swara followed his typical patterns, followed amicably by C N chandrasekharan. Nattakkurinji and brindavana sarang followed with a shorter alapana for the former and a detailed ‘superb’ alapana for the latter. Soundararajam was very moving adding some intrinsic and beautiful set of swaras. Gangeyabhushani , now becoming regular in concerts here ( Sanjay taken this up as the main at Malleswaram) had some interesting sangatis at the pallavi line.

Sankarabharanam alapana was superb. The usual full throated high octave alapana to the soft low phrases, the grahabhedam ( I realised only after he returned to the main raga !) , all were there. Chandrasekharan in his return was pretty good too.  I had to leave , when he started the Akshayalinga vibho.. I heard that he had an elaborate rendering of the krithi.

Apart from my early departure, the other issue was to do with the audio. There was some issue of clarity and the voice was not decipherable at times. The organisers on their part wsa taking feedback from variuos corners and did try to get this corrected to an extent. It was a very good concert, by the master.

This is in reply to Gayathri’s request on OST’s concert.

O- Rangasayee- one of the best neravals I have heard on Bhooloka vaikunta; other good ones from MS and TNS. It was followed by

    -Sada enna hrudayadalli- Behag

    – Sagara Sayana Vibho- Bagesri- Excellent “Prabo”- very moving presentation.

    – Laali – Neelambari

    It was a majestic recital.

Thank you Sri Raghavan. Apologies for leaving the concert mid-way. Wasn’t planning to attend, but the ‘forecast of cyclone’ in Mumbai helped cancel few meetings. So, wanted to quickly listen to whatever I could.

    The concert proceeded as follows:
-Sankarabharanam-Neraval on Badri Vana, with a very elaborate swara prasthara, including his characteristic kanakku phrases.

    -Kanakasaile- Punnagavarali

    – Vame Bhumi Sutha – Ragamalika viruttam in Chenjuruti, Nadanamakriya, Yaman Kalyani and Sindhu Bhairavi followed by

    – Rama Rama Rama Enniro, Sita,- Vasantha

    – Thillana in Mohanam

    – Lengthy Tamil Mangalam

It was a four hour concert just concluding a few minutes before 10 pm.

    True, it was very good.

    “Priyangulika syamam roopena prathimam budham…
