I have to thank Hari for taking me to this concert. It was a chamber concert and was for limited audience. The concert was from 10:00 am till 1:00 pm and on a Sunday.  The only reason for me accepting this was Sanjay Subrahmanyan. Sanjay always gives superb concerts here, and this time was no exception. It was an outstanding concert and it was so from the word go.  Varnam was treated specially so was each of the kritis.  The alapana of chakravakam , kEdaragaula and Thodi were exceptionally good. And the expected ‘surprise’ of the ragam for RTP. It had to be a new one and this time it was ‘varamu’. H K Venkataram was also in good form today. His alapana of Kedaragaula and the supporting role he did for Thodi , RTP and Chakravakam were superb.  Tumkur Ravishankar is a good player and today, he lifted his performance to the level exhibited by the main artist. His tani Avartanam with Rajasekhar was also very good.  I have never seen someone playing Morsing like this. To me, Rajasekhar was the man of the day. He was outstanding. Overall, a very pleasing , fulfilling sunday morning.

Balaji, This was organised by Advaita, and was not ( If I understand correctly ) open to all. There was invitations for this concert and the concert of Prof T N Krishnan on the previous day. I hadn’t captured this in this place, as I came to know the previous evening.

You have to look at the daily engagement column in the local papers.
In fact, I missed the concert of Smt Gayathri Venkataraghavan on the same evening at Koramangala , Nadasurabhi Monthly concert at Heritage Academy. I stay a walking distance from this venue, and a regular there. Despite that, I did not know about it.

    Dear Jayan,

I missed this one! Costly miss indeed.

    Was it a private affair?

Was it posted in your web site in advance?

I trust your website more than THE HINDU!

It definitely was an awesome concert.

Delhi can feel jealous of Bangalore and we can be upset over Chennai for the frequency of concerts. All we can do is to make use of the available opportunities and rely on recordings as you are doing 🙂
