Beautiful concert , dwarf most of other concerts I attended this season. I reached the venue while the swara singing in sahana was going on , and I could not make out the krithi. Then came a majestic mEru samAna. It was awesome. The neraval and the swaras were superb, with some brilliant support by Charulatha and KV Prasad. This was an alaborate affair with 30 mins or so. Main piece of the day came rather quickly, giving hopes for a Pallavi to follow. Very good alapana followed by neraval and some interesting set of swaras. Then came the alapana of dwijavanti. Due to the time factor, there was no repeat by violinist ( which I had longed for ).
What greeted me as I entered was the hoarse strained voice. It wasn’t soothing to hear. It didnot improve as the concert progressed and the man was visibly struggling through out. Despite all that, he gave a performance which is memorable. Had his voice been in proper shape, this would have been an outstanding one.
