Nityasree gave a nice concert yesterday. I would say nice, not a powerful one.

08 evaricchirirA – madhyamAvathi – Thyagaraja A, S, T

09 kandena udupiya krishNana  – behAg – Purandara dasa   O

10 RTP – karNaranjani     ( Pallavi lines ‘Om namO nArAyaNa enru bhajE manamE )

11 Viruttam  – shanmukhapriya ( varnamayil) , mOhanam ( mayilpeeli)

shanmukha kanDhanum mOhana kaNNanum – shanmukhapriya,mOhanam    – ??

12 nambi kettavar ever aiya – hindOLam –  Papanasam Sivan

13 MangaLam – sourAshtram

Smt Sukanya Ramgopal received the maximum applause for a good thaniavartanam, rightly so.  I liked this concert for one reason.  I have been longing to listen to a Madhyamavathi main for a long time. Last 70-80 concert I attended in last couple of years , never had  madhyamavathi as main or a detailed rendering.  She definitely has a beautiful voice.

Thanks for the Ragamalika swaras .. I haven’t listened to it yet. Vaidyanathan was very impressive through out.

J.Vaidyanathan is awesome, especially in the RTP, and what an awesome RTP!! H.N.Bhaskar wasn’t as impressive as he usually is, in fact, quite the opposite, but still promising.

Ragamalika Swaras: Nattai (impressive), Mohanam, Madhuvanthi (awesome as always, but percussionsts was outstanding here too), Valaji and finally coming back to Karnaranjani very smoothly! She, like her grandmother, is one of the RTP Queens for sure!

haha…i wish!! definitely not if i’m on the other side of the world 😦 loooking forward to the recording too 🙂 same goes for unni’s rtp…

    in unni’s thread…guruvayurappa is by papanasam sivan…

the song i meant in sudha’s thread was ‘chakkani’ by annamacharya…where i made a typo which was meant to read as ‘padi’

sorry about posting it all in 1 comment this site jut froze on me when i tried leaving a comment before…so didn’t want to take any chances after it swallowed all my typing without chewing 😦

I have recorded and will work with Hari for upload. Did not get enough time to listen to it again.

There were few young fans queuing up for her autograph after the concert was over. Did I see you among them ? 🙂

    Dear K
Thank you for pointing out the Nalinakanthi error. While listening to the concert, sometimes, its hard to remember. I have corrected.

Yes, the ragamalkia composition was sung wery well. Did not know it is by Sathur Karpagam. Thanks for the information.

Yes, there were ragamalika swarams in 4 different Ragams. Did not take note, will have to listen to the recording again. I remember the last of which was Malayamarutam ( or was it valachi ? I get confused between both !!)..

Thanks for your inputs and feedback.

    Smt Nithyasree Mahadevan
    Sri HN Bhaskar
    Poongulam Sri S.Subramanian
    Smt Sukkanya Ramgopal

    01. Entho Prema (Varnam) – Surutti – Pallavi Gopala Iyer (a)
    02. Baalakrishnam Bhaavayaami – Gopikaavasantham – Dikshithar
    03. Nenaruncharaa Naapai – Simhavaahini – Thyagaraja (S)
    04. Ramanatham Bhajeham – Panthuvarali – Muthuswami Dikshithar (A,N,S)
    05. Mathuraa Mathura – Ataanaa – Oothukadu Venkatasubbiyer
    06. Eesane Koti Suriya Prakaashane – Nalinakaanthi – Muthuthandavar
    07. Varanaaradha – Vijayasri – Thyagaraja
    08. Evarichirira – Madhyamavathi – Thyagaraja (A,S,T)
    09. Kandenaa Uudupiya Krishnanaa – Behaag – Purandaradasar (a)
    10. “Om Namo Naaraayana Endru Bhaje Maname!” (RTP) – Karnaranjani
    11. Vannamayil (Virutham) – Shanmukhapriya – Sattur Karpagam
    12. Mayil Peeli (Virutham) – Mohanam – Sattur Karpagam
    13. Shanmukha Kandhanum Mohana Kannanum – Ragamalika – Sattur Karpagam
    14. Nambi Kettavar – Hindolam – Papanasam Sivan
    15. Mangalam – Sourashtram – Thyagaraja

The Ragamalika composition was well received, in praise of both Lord Murugan (these parts were in Shanmukhapriya) and Lord Krishnan (these parts where in Mohanam) and with a very fitting finale of alternating between both.

out of curiosity, any ragamalika swarams for the RTP?
